It's a Scam!

If you are a homeowner in trouble please be on the alert to the scam artists that are in the marketplace. This is a time when you are in distress and might be ready to welcome an angel at your door. That angel might be a wolf -be careful! Mortgage fraud is on the rise and you need to watch for the signs that could give you a hint to stay clear. 1. Not all scammers look like a crook. The typical scammer is attractive and friendly. They earn your trust easily and are knowledgeable. 2. Scammers tell you what you want to hear! I'll save your home. There is no easy fix or quick fix. Ask questions and then confirm the answers with a third party. 3. Check the license of all connected with the transaction. All California real estate licenses can be checked at http://www.dre.ca.org/. Check your local state for their DRE site. Check that the statements being made are true. If the individual says he's from a BIG office check to see how many licenses are listed with the DRE. 4. Never pay upfront for help with a short sale or loan modification. California law prohibits anyone who negotiates, arranges, or offers to perform a loan modification from claiming any upfront compensation. 5. NEVER, NEVER sign over title to anyone that is helping with a short sale or loan modication. 6. Never allow any payment to be made out side of escrow. This constitute mortgage fraud and RESPA violations, among other things. I was told with a family transaction that "it was done all the time and I just didn't know the way things were done outside of California". No -it's illegal in all states!! There are lots of great real estate agents and charity organazations available to you if you need help but remember "If it sounds too good to be true..."

I want to share one of my favorite venues in Temecula.  "THE MERC" is located in the Old Town Temecula Community Theater.  Each Thursday at 7:30pm you will be treated to a different jazz group in the intimate space known as "The Merc".
